I am Ambassador for Education for the British School of Meditation and the co-author of the book: “How can I help my anxious child?” Practical guidance, support and “try now” strategies for parents and carers (2024).

I had been teaching as a highly successful Head of Drama since 1988 and achieved a master’s in education in 2002. I had also been a Trainee Manager and Subject Lead (Drama) mentor for teachers in Gloucestershire (GITEP), as well as supporting Newly Qualified Teachers in their first year of teaching.

At the start of 2022 I decided to leave full-time teaching and “refocus” by embracing my passion for Mental Health and Well-being for young people by immersing myself as a freelance practitioner for Meditation for Wellbeing in schools, as well as Speech and Drama for child confident communication.

I found mindful meditation to combat stress when I was an extremely busy Head of department. It helped me to become a calmer and more focused person, adding a completely new dimension to my every day, which was life changing. I wanted to share this amazing life skill with my own students and staff in my own school. The next step was to undertake my Meditation Teacher Training with the “British School of Meditation” with its rigorous Ofqual and Ascentis seal of approval. I achieved my DipBSoM with Distinction in 2017. I then implemented Mindfulness and well-being into the school curriculum, winning a prestigious "Mental Health" Award. I now regularly teach Mindful Meditation and Speech and Drama at schools throughout Gloucestershire, as well as being a lead practitioner with “Twocan inclusive Theatre company”.

I am also a Mindfulness Life Coach, certified NLP Practitioner, Chakradance facilitator and a Reiki Master.

Mindful meditation is just the tool we need to “switch off” the “monkey mind" and become calmer and more relaxed. I am excited to provide the externally accredited training for teachers in their own schools, so we can support our young people’s wellbeing for the future.

Testimonials

"Mandy Johnson is a wonderful, innovative practitioner. She brings her considerable experience and talents as a performer, teacher, director and drama expert to her work. Her sessions in well-being are accessible and give terrific tools to de-stress and centre your energies. Mandy ran a wonderful “well-being” session for my class at University of Gloucester. All the students said it was a terrific experience and they would continue to use the exercises to help ease the stress of their uni work. The session was calming, energising and gave all of us a sense of empowerment and calm".

Sue Colverd - Academic Course Leader Drama and Performance Practice 2024

"The students have been overwhelmingly positive about the sessions and have each taken away a tip or exercise that they can keep in their ‘toolkit’ when they need it. Many students have been really surprised how easy it is to start mindful meditation, and our hope is that by raising their awareness they will feel less inhibited to use such techniques in the future".

Kate Corbin Deputy Head Wycliffe
