December's Member Appreciation - Emma Weaver of Emma Weaver Therapies

In December, we celebrate our fantastic register member Emma Weaver, a Meditation Teacher and Forest bathing guide, based in Partridge Green, near Horsham, West Sussex.

We asked Emma to share some information about her business, her teachings and her own meditation experience, so that you can get to know her better.

Here is what Emma told us about her own meditation experience…

“I started practising meditation about 12 years ago as part of my training to be a Reiki Master. I found it beneficial to my own personal wellbeing and as a therapist. I started to include meditation to begin and end my Reiki group meetings and enjoyed writing scripts for guided visualisations. I used these meditations at retreats I was involved in which people seemed to enjoy and that prompted me to find out more about meditation and getting a qualification to teach it. It was that research that led me to BSoM. Alongside this I was going to Kundalini Yoga classes and learning more about using mantra and mudras in meditation. In 2017 I found a wonderful BSoM teacher, Mary Nelson from Meditation By The Bay and completed the teacher training course…

I enjoy using a variety of different meditation techniques in my own practice, vipassana, mantra, moving meditations, yoga Nidra. I particularly enjoy meditation outdoors in nature. Covid gave me the opportunity to try teaching outdoors as we couldn’t hold classes inside for a while. I enjoyed this so much and also noticed how it seemed to enhance some of the benefits. In 2021, I trained to become a Forest Bathing Guide”.

Emma trained with BSoM to become an externally accredited meditation teacher because…

“The course looked very thorough and was over a long period of time. I felt reassured that it was externally accredited by Ascentis who are regulated by OFQUAL. I was told it would be a small group which also appealed to me…

My motivations for doing the course were to help more people experience the benefits of meditation and to make sure I was equipped with all the right skills to do this. I was interested in learning more about the science of meditation so I could use this knowledge to demonstrate that the benefits are real and that you can influence the chemistry of your body in a positive way. I wanted to help others to become more empowered, as I had been, to manage their own anxiety, learn to let go and take more care of their mental emotional wellbeing”.

What she loved about the training was…

“I enjoyed every bit of the course, I found it so interesting and inspiring. I loved doing the journalling which helped me so much and is a practice that I have continued. I remember that I particularly enjoyed writing my own guided visualisation and learning about the variety of different ways to meditate”.

About Emma’s business ‘Emma Weaver Therapies’

“I set up my business early in 2018. I started holding a weekly mindfulness class in the church hall in Partridge green and ran a series of beginners 5 week meditation courses. I went on to do some corporate work in person and online and combined skills with others to offer retreat days. My motivation is to help others lead more fulfilling and empowered lives through self care and meditation.

My audience are mainly people in my area of West Sussex who want to learn meditation or experience forest bathing.

I offer a beginners 5 week meditation course seasonally. The next start date is 30th January. I have a weekly class on a Wednesday morning in Partridge Green for students who wish to continue developing their practice in a group setting.

I also hold monthly Forest Bathing sessions at Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens.

Winter Wellbeing Walks in Henfield with mindfulness and nature connection (Nov-Feb)

Woodland Wellbeing Retreat Days in private woodlands, (May-October) Group bookings and corporate”.

Emma’s favourite aspect of teaching is…

“Seeing the relaxation in a students face after a practice, when they have managed to transcend the mind chatter for the first time and get a glimpse of a more peaceful place within. It’s rewarding to hear students recounting stories and sharing examples of how their own practice has supported them since their last session”.
